PermalinkThe Israeli military says it carried out nearly 500 strikes
against Syrian military targets in the days since the fall
of President Bashar al-Assad, while its troops moved into
a demilitarised zone in the Golan Heights that was established
following the 1973 Middle East war. Analysts say Tel Aviv
may be preparing for potential “chaos” – and for a new
regime in Syria.
. . .
"Building good will" with the new neighbors ?
There IS gonna be 'chaos' fer sure. The rebel
coalition was built around hatred of Assad, but
maybe not much else in common. NOW they will
stake out little territories and start fighting
each other.
Israel sank Assad's "navy" the other day - not
that it was much of a 'navy' - mostly smallish
patrol boats according to the photos, nothing
really beyond the size of a large fishing boat.
Not exactly an invasion force.
It also bombed the shit out of known ammo depots
and supporting infrastructure - claiming to be
nixing 'chemical weapons'.
Finally it occupied a longstanding 'buffer zone'
along the border, saying it didn't want rads
creeping too close to Israel proper.
While you can reason all this, it's also a recipe
for eternal conflict and hate for the next 100
years with whichever rad faction eventually winds
up in charge. NEVER any peace in the middle-east ...
Turkey has also been making some raids into
northern Syria - their usual "Kurd hunts".
